LOI LOI
https://loiloi.bandcamp.com
Loi Loi is an electronic synth-pop duo of Kristie (vocals, keyboards, synthesizers), Ron (trumpet, flugelhorn, synthesizer)... and, on more than 5 occasions, Maryjo (bass; of Color Palette)!
Loi Loi started four years ago in China, where Kristie was living and working at the time. Since her time as a Peace Corps volunteer in China, Kristie had always dreamed about becoming a Mandarin pop singer; this turned out to be an easy goal to achieve while she was stationed in Guangzhou, China. She also successfully composed original lyrics in Mandarin, pairing pop compositions with occasional radical experimental sounds vis-à-vis vis her microkorg. Loi Loi continued to develop in Spain, where Kristie tried her hand mixing original Spanish lyrics with an eclectic background of rock and roll, R&B, electronic, and soul influences. The band went fully electronic when Kristie acquired a Korg Electribe drum synthesizer. Today, Loi Loi embraces a somewhat economical setup but maximizes on a suite of atmospheric effects, original samples, and a multi-tiered song structure.

“Loi Loi is a great example of progressive, experimental music that represents D.C.’s tradition of pushing forward.” -DC Music Download

¨The Washington D.C. group highlights the universal power of women through sounds & visuals that elevate femme empowerment against all aspects of adversity.¨ - Impose Magazine

LIGHT BEAMS
http://lightbeams.bandcamp.com/

Light Beams began in 2015 when longtime Dischord artist Justin Moyer (El Guapo, Supersystem, Edie Sedgwick, Puff Pieces) -- influenced by 80s-era freestyle music and Sheila E. -- started playing sampler and timbales with Sam Lavine, the longtime drummer of D.C. hip-hop mainstays the Cornel West Theory. With the addition of bassist Arthur Noll, formerly of Kid Congo Powers and Alarms & Controls, the resulting polyrhythmic melange, sometimes called "block rock," reinvents late-20th century dance-pop using the tools of the 21st. Known for their blistering live performances and relentlessly positive attitudes, the band hopes to inspire audiences to feel good about themselves in an era when the menacing shadows of night seem more threatening than ever before.
